While there are several good media players capable of playing audio files, at times you might just want to load and play a list of songs conveniently. Furthermore, many media players do not display tags on the main interface by default, to maintain eye candy. Trout is a portable audio player, designed with standard controls and a simple interface, which allows instantly loading and playing audio files. It has been designed using AutoHotkey, and displays all tags tied to an audio file on the main interface. Moreover, it provides Last.fm and Libre.fm scrobbling, lyrics and album art display, support for internet radio streams, tag editing, as well as support for a large number of audio formats including, FLAC, WMA, WMP, WMV, ASF, MID, MIDI, RMI, KAR, WV, WVC, AAC, MP4, M4A, M4B, M4P, APE, AC3 and many more.
Just add file(s) or folder(s) to load tracks and start playing them. The main interface displays all associated tags, including artist, album, title, year, genre, time, bitrate, size, file name, file extension, file path, comment and sample.
To enable Last.fm and Libre.fm support, go to Tools –> Options. Here, you will require allowing internet access to the application. You can also enable Gtalk support, list history, tray icon. jump interval etc, from the General tab.
Once done, head over to the Scrobbling tab and enter your Last.fm/Libre.fm account.
Finally, enable last/libre.fm support from Edit –> last/libre.fm –> Enable/disable last(or libre).fm.
One of the best features of Trout, other than its easy load and play utility, is that it is highly customizable. You can find advanced customization options from Tools –> Options, and change font and style of the application interface, assign custom hotkeys, specify playlist path, enable/disable options, etc. Trout works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
